Olivia March began sewing before she could talk. While wandering around her mother’s sewing machine, Olivia took an early interest in the idea of making blankets. Many years later Olivia’s mother read about an organization that donates quilts to children in hospitals. The organization was Project Linus. Olivia started donating her quilts, large and small, to Project Linus. Since then she has not only donated over sixty quilts of her own to Project Linus but has worked with the Girl Scouts, schools, families, and churches to make their own quilts. Further, Olivia originated the concept of the “Patch Drive” in which blank quilt squares are brought to events and schools where people of all ages can draw on a patch and lend a hand in the quilt making process.

Olivia’s quilts are completely one-of-a-kind pieces made without any patterns. It is because they are pattern-free, which adds a certain element of spiritual surprise, that patterns emerge, faces materialize, certain colors are stronger than others. Each quilt is an entity within itself and can never be repeated again. It is for this reason that Olivia loves donating her quilts to Project Linus; she believes that each quilt has an interesting way of finding its true soul-mate. Olivia quilts are not made to be art pieces, but are quilted to be a life companion. They are quilted to provide strength, create smiles, love, and of course warmth. They are meant to be taken to first days’ of school, field trips, vacations, school pictures, and family outings; they are meant to get dirty and experience life, for it is through these experiences that the quilt and owner form a bond unlike any other.
